LLL Leadership Workshop
“As someone in positional student leadership, these conversations can be quite demotivating as you realize that students need a greater platform to be heard. The inputs from various students—in positional and non-positional leadership—made me realize that there is a way to lead without having all of the power or authority to make decisions. It is called collaboration and innovation—that is where student leadership is most effective.”

Dale also commented on the all-female leadership team sharing inspiring stories and underscoring the importance of motivating female learners. Despite the dinner ending in darkness due to load shedding, the determination to engage in a selfie was evident that also made for much laughter!

LLL Programme Opening Workshop 2024: Making the SDGs Practical and Accessible
LLL started the year with an Opening Workshop on 10 February to introduce the LLL Programme and set key expectations. LLL also interacts with keynote speaker Dr Jaisheila Rajput to see how SDGs can be applied outside of the tertiary institution space.

Courageous Conversations – Moeletsi Mbeki Presentation Provokes Conversation about 2024 possibilities.
Early on the morning of 10 August 2023, a bus filled with a group of about 50 Stellenbosch University (SU) students left 11 Bosman Street for the SU Belleville Park campus. This group of committed/dedicated students woke up at an hour when most others were still sleeping to attend the 2024 Pre-Elections Business Breakfast organised by the Listen Live and Learn (LLL) program in collaboration with the School of Public Leadership (SPL).

Lyon calling: LLL Intern making a splash at global science conference
The LLL programme is the apex student leadership development platform at Stellenbosch University (SU), made up of a diverse mix of undergraduate and postgraduate students. By harnessing the enthusiasm, talent and thought leadership of LLLers, the programme aims to “strengthen efforts directed towards addressing some of the perennial issues faced by South Africa, Africa, and the world at large”.

Cultivating GRIT for a life of success
On Saturday 29 April 2023, the LLL Program hosted a workshop for its students at the Russel Bothman Hall. The workshop focussed on "building GRIT for success" and provided an opportunity for about 40 LLLers to gain insights about grit from the two invited speakers.

SLAM die taal lwakho
Do you have a story to tell? Something funny? Inspirational? Or maybe slice-of-life? “Slam die taal lwakho” is a multilingualism video competition that offers you the chance to tell your story using any combination of Stellenbosch University’s three official languages: English, Afrikaans and isiXhosa (you have to use at least two). Your story can be about a real-life experience, serious to silly, humour, life-changing moments, or your dreams and aspirations, as long as it captures the University’s multilingual principle.
